Indian Premier League – Day 3 Preview

Posted by vijay | April 20, 2008 .

Today, being the 3rd day of the IPL, it only promises to become bigger and better as the craze for this new form of cricket has caught the moods of all genre in India. Today is a Super Sunday for all cricket fans as the 2 matches that are going to be held today, promise to be fierce encounters.

Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders :

This match is going to be one hell of a match as both teams boast of having some really good hitters in their team. The Kolkata Knight Riders have already proven that they are one of the favorites in this IPL season when they thrashed the Bangalore Royal Challengers by a big margin. Brendon McCullum who broke many records in the first game is the man to watch out for in this match as far as the KKR are concerned. Shahrukh Khan will be hoping that McCullum comes up with another blistering knock against the Deccan Chargers too. In this match, the squad is expected to be an unchanged one because of the absence of Chris Gayle who is out for another fortnight. The KKR will look to repeat what they did against the BRC.

Whereas, the Deccan Chargers are going to play their first match and it is going to be a tough one as it is going to held in the Eden Gardens, Kolkata which is the home ground for the KKR. The Deccan Chargers have a good batting and bowling line up with the batting responsibility to be shouldered by Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds. The skipper VVS Laxman will be hoping that he is out of his test mode and tunes in quickly to this new form of cricket. Scott Styris and Rohit Sharma add strength to the Deccan Chargers. Coming to the bowling department, it is going to be headed by RP Singh. There will be a toss up between Zoysa and Vaas for the other bowling spot. The one spinner is Pragyan Ojha.

So, this game which is going to attract over 100,000 spectators is going to be the showpiece event for the first week of IPL.

Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Mumbai Indians :

The 2nd match of the day is expected to be a low scoring encounter because of the squads that both teams are going to field. Both teams have shown importance to finesse and class rather than power. For the BRC, there are 2 changes expected which are that, Jaffer is going to be replaced by the wily West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Noffke will be out of this match because of the groin strain. We really hope that they come up with a better batting and bowling display today.

For the Mumbai Indians, the biggest doubt is whether Sachin Tendulkar, the captain, will able to lead the team today. Sources suggest that he is fit for the match but we have to just wait and watch because there may be a lots of surprises awaiting us. Sanath Jayasuriya is the trump card as far as the Mumbai Indians are concerned because he has the power and technique to decimate any bowling attack at will. Robin Uthappa adds some power to the side. The bowling will depend on Shaun Pollock and Dilhara Fernando and there is always the wiles of Harbhajan Singh who always mesmerizes the batsmen with his own bag of tricks. So, lets hope that this match is as good as any IPL encounter.

Watch both matches starting 4pm local time only on Set Max.
